Best fit currently on the board. Not a co-favorite F-150 — those left the board with Car Cloud — but the strongest all-around candidate found to date.
Verdict: Everything the My Ride Denali offered minus its red flags, $1,200 cheaper, five minutes from home. If the CARFAX comes back clean with service records, this is the one to inspect first.
02 Live Candidates
In budget, right spec on paper, awaiting history checks. Ranked by fit.
Verdict: 30k fewer miles than the accident-history '19 Suburban wildcard for ~$600 more. If the Yukon's CARFAX disappoints, this is next in line — same lot, same visit.
Verdict: Lowest-mileage full-size on the board. Worth a same-day look with the CarPlug pair. Same lot also holds a '19 Suburban LT w/1LT — $14,995 / 161k mi (≈ $287/mo) if price beats miles.
Verdict: The $3,000 drop makes the cloth seats easier to forgive — seat covers cost $200, not $3,000.
Verdict: The friend-approved pick: franchise Honda store, leather, CarPlay, best fuel economy here. The drive to Fairfax is the price of the comfort. Photos are on the dealer's listing — their site loads them by script, so they can't be pinned here.
Verdict: Pay ~$500 more than the '17 Touring, get 28k fewer miles, lose CarPlay. If longevity beats gadgets, this quietly wins the Pilot race.
Verdict: Same money as the Yukon for a thirstier-proof Honda — but the Yukon gives more truck for it. Solid fallback.

Under-$13k options that still clear the brief — smaller payment, bigger repair fund.
Verdict: The responsible-money option: ~$80/mo saved vs the Yukon buys a lot of diapers. Didn't show in the latest inventory mirror, so confirm it's still on the lot before the trip.
Verdict: Engine checks out — 3.5 V6, real 4WD per the VIN. Now it hinges on the CARFAX: this generation's water pump lives inside the engine, so documented cooling work is worth more than low miles here.
04 Near Miss
Verdict: Three misses is too many at this price. Watching in case it drops under ~$16k.
05 Off the Board
Removed Aug 25 after the dealership vetting pass (the car friend's rule: franchise stores and bank-financed independents only).
06 Before Any Deposit
- Credit-union pre-approval first. Walk in financed — Navy Federal or a local CU may beat the 14% estimate and every payment above improves. A pre-approval also makes buy-here-pay-here tactics irrelevant anywhere.
- CARFAX before the test drive. Every dealer above will text or email it free. Red flags: "engine checked" right before an owner sold, auction chains, salt-state plates, service gaps after 100k.
- Pre-purchase inspection, non-negotiable. $150–200 at an independent shop. For the GM 5.3s: ask specifically about AFM lifter noise and transfer-case recall 26V289000 completion. For Pilots: 9-speed/VCM behavior. For the F-150: cam phaser rattle on cold start.
- Confirm the hitch. Factory tow package or budget ~$250–450 for a Class III install.
